| The
Government Affairs Committee is the advocacy arm of the Chamber
of Commerce. The role of the committee is to evaluate public
policy from the City, County, State, and Federal levels.
First
and foremost we want to take care of business within the
city of Encinitas. We advocate on issues affecting business
within the city. Our most recent efforts have included
lobbying against the structure of the Traffic Mitigation
Fees in order to make them more fair to business owners
and advocating for the purchase of the Hall property. We
also invited County Supervisor Pam Slater and her chief
of staff, to our full board meeting to share dialogue on
the Manchester Ave. property purchased by the city some
years ago as well as the Hall Property.
On
the state level we have taken positions on all the propositions
affecting our member businesses circulated on the 2000
primary and general elections. In addition, we evaluate
bills that committee member bring before the committee
and determine what position will be taken if any. On the
Federal level we have recently advocated on bills that
would protect businesses by support wholesale energy price
caps on a temporary basis until the market normalizes.
The
Government Affairs committee meets once a quarter. We invite
our elected officials representatives to join us at least
quarterly and give us updates from their jurisdictions. All
chamber members are welcome to participate.
